Burger Shed Restaurant Altoona: Reviews & Ratings

Great brunch menu, the food was bland until we added things like salsa, syrup, etc. The restaurant was maybe half full, and we had a large group. The server was very polite and quick to get what we needed after we asked. We did run out of drinks a couple times and most of our empty plates were left on the table even after we'd paid. The restaurant was set up great, so even with 2 other large groups near us it wasn't too loud to hear each other and the large TVs have us ready to come back for sporting events!

This is the kind of standard burger pub environment you would expect to find nestled in between hotels. Food was served promptly after ordering and was tasty, the server at the bar was warm and energetic, and the bill was affordable, considering the location. My only complaint (and this is obviously no fault of their own) is that the parking lot is not easily accessible from the road; you have to drive around past the hotels to find an access point. On the other hand, if you're already booked a room nearby there is a lovely walkway alongside the pond that quickly leads to the restaurant.

The s'more shake was excellent and so was the loaded potato soup. The soup could have been hotter but that is a personal preference. I like my soup piping hot!!!! The tots left plenty to be desired. They lacked flavor. The crunch was there, but they just didn't hot the spot for me. I tried a bite of my husband's burger and it was delicious!

We sat at a high top in the bar area. The server/bartender was very prompt even though he seemed pretty busy. We don't drink so we skipped straight to ordering food. We started out with the cheese curds and each got a burger. I got the Turkey Pesto burger and he got the Shed Burger. Everything was absolutely delicious! The burgers were cooked just right and the toppings suited them perfectly. We even got some extra pickles to-go because we enjoyed them so much. I love the open floor plan and it's so clean and nicely decorated. There are so many ways you could seat a party here. Loved it. And, I guess they're related to Machine Shed restaurants? They had a few Machine Shed staples on their menu. We'd definitely come back here to watch a game, too. The huge screen above the bar is ideal.

Great service and great staff. Great shakes. Great menu. What's not to like from them.

I had a classic reuben, and a friend had the Philly cheesesteak. Both were great, and so were the drinks and onion rings! I would recommend a stop here whether you're looking for a good meal. Their specialty drinks were good, too.

The BS Mac was so good. Probably wouldn't get burnt ends again but the cheese steak egg rolls were amazing. The crunch berry shake was yummy!

Solid 'OKAY' experience. I think part of the reason it didn't rate higher for me was because I went at 2pm and the food seemed left over from lunch, dining area untidy, staff seemed tired/not overly welcoming. It's not the easiest to find the entrance to the parking, either. I had a chicken avocado sandwich. The mix of flavor was good- had a nice Chipotle aioli and mixed greens- but the chicken was dry and had been sitting in a warmer for a stretch. Also on the smaller side. Coleslaw the same- good flavor but warm and runny from being out on the counter or something. They do have a beautiful patio overlooking a pond. Nice selection of malts that I didn't try. Local and domestic beer. Bill was $17.

Welcome to Burger Shed Restaurant Altoona, a gem tucked away in Altoona, Iowa, located at 500 Bass Pro Dr NW. This spot is an inviting blend of traditional burger pub vibes and modern dining experiences, perfect for families, groups, or just a casual bite on your own. With a welcoming environment and an emphasis on friendly service, it captures the essence of a laid-back eatery where great food and good company intertwine.

The restaurant has garnered a reputation for its diverse menu that appeals to a wide range of palates. Many patrons rave about their brunch offerings, although some have noted that certain dishes may benefit from a little extra seasoning, such as salsa or syrup to enhance the flavors. It’s a testament to the customizable nature of their meals. Additionally, folks like Melinda have praised the quality and presentation of the burgers, particularly the Turkey Pesto burger and the famously satisfying Shed burger. Each option is cooked to perfection with toppings that thoughtfully complement the patty, delivering that juicy goodness that burger lovers crave.

The ambiance sets the stage for an enjoyable dining experience. With a spacious open floor plan decorated tastefully, customers can easily converse over the bustle, making it an ideal spot for gatherings. Customers like Rhonda have noted that despite high occupancy, the restaurant maintains a manageable noise level, thanks in part to large TVs that showcase sporting events—making it a perfect game-day destination.

Of course, the dining experience is not only about the food but the service as well. Guests like Rebecca have commented on the promptness of the staff, their warm demeanor, and a willingness to cater to requests, helping to create a relaxed dining environment. Though some patrons have experienced challenges with table service, such as empty plates lingering a bit too long, these instances are outweighed by the overall hospitality. And let’s not forget the delicious s'more shake, highlighted by Connie, which rounds out the meal with a delightful sweet treat.

Accessibility, however, could be a bit challenging for newcomers. Rebecca's review reminds us of the parking situation; while it may require a bit of navigation, it’s worth the journey—especially for those staying at nearby hotels who can enjoy a lovely stroll by the pond.

Overall, Burger Shed Restaurant Altoona invites you to unwind and relish a wide variety of delicious menu items within a congenial setting. From hearty burgers to delightful shakes, it promises a satisfying experience that leaves diners eager to return.
